A parenting plan is a schedule. I write them the way I used to write hospital rotas: around the real calendar.

Before law school I built staff schedules for a hospital, which taught me that a plan only works if it survives the worst week, not the average one.

Now I write the firm's parenting plans and handle changes to existing ones. I've trained as a family mediator, so I spend a lot of time finding the sentence two parents can both sign.
